To all my GIM friends
the hint for today is study the
USA commemeratives in all forms as they are rather cheap right now. Happy NEW YEAR is gonna be one "HELL" of a YEAR. The MOTHER of all storms is heading this way - like years ago as a BSoA (Boy Scout of :23_28_100s: Obamaphobia) "BE DARN prepapred!" |
Re: To all my GIM friends
There is a moneyed individual in my locale who has been buying 4,5, sometimes 6 gold coins per day. All US commems. I think he's trying to corner the market LOL

Re: To all my GIM friends
I thought dealers turned their noses up on US Commems? You'd have to buy damn near at spot to do good on them. I've thought about it before, just not a true believer yet.

Re: To all my GIM friends
I do buy them as long as they are close to spot. As long as you're able to do that they're a good deal. It may not be a bad strategy to buy the ones in what my compadre calls the "sweet spot" with mintages low enough to raise an eyebrow, but high enough that they don't have the pereceived rarity premium built-in. Compadre say these are the ones that have been, & still are being melted.

Re: To all my GIM friends
My new years tip fwiw.
Due to budget constraints I've been reduced to smaller purchases lately. I've been focusing on 06-07 $5 w GAEs ms69, ungraded and some ICG SP70s which can still be had for less than Apmex's price on 09 $5 bullion GAEs. These 06-07 burnished Ws even in ms69 have nice potential imo because they have the w, are fairly low mintage and no longer available, probably forever. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT The only commemorative I've ever purchased so far is the 2002 West Point Bicentennial for my nephew who is a student there. Happy New Year |
Re: To all my GIM friends
Interesting HS, a couple of years ago there were plenty of Constitution and Statue of Liberty commemoratives available at spot.
Not that I would have ever bought any... You think that they will ever be worth more than their gold content? Problem with them, as with many nic-nac commemoratives, is that they are not an easily recognized amount of gold (.22 ounces or something if I remember correctly). Edit: .242 ounces of gold, just looked it up |

I suppose you could sell them to a refiner. |
Re: To all my GIM friends
HS is usually right about these things. I'm in.

Re: To all my GIM friends
Remember the DIFFERENT baskets?
Well, the USoO (oops, USoA) has these silver and gold commemeratives at some reasonable prices. And they are a different basket in collectables. And they are CHEAPER in mint packages too. Slab them later IYL. (If you LIKE!) HNY. Happy New Year - it's gonna be one hell of a ride - the start of the first really bad year - then a few more, right? :signs14: Just pragmatic....:36_1_63: |
